France and Serbia have won the Crelan FIBA 3x3 World Cup in 2022


The Crelan FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2022 was held in Antwerp, Belgium from June 21-26, at a sold-out outdoor stadium on the famous Groenplaats. The men’s and women’s tournaments were won by Serbia and France, respectively.

With their 21-16 victory against Lithuania in the final, Serbia won their fifth global title in seven tournaments. In this match, Strahinja Stojacic, the best 3×3 player in the world, scored 9 points. Dejan Majstorovic, one of his teammates, scored the most points for the squad and was awarded the tournament’s most valuable player. With four 3×3 World Cup victories under his belt, the man they called “the Maestro” became the tournament’s all-time leading scorer. He was joined on the Tournament’s All-Star Team by Lithuania’s Ignas Vaitkus and Belgium’s Thibaut Vervoort (Belgium).

France won the bronze medal match against Belgium in a thrilling overtime match that stunned the home audience. Léo Cavaliere scored 8 points to lead France to victory despite the fact that their leading scorer, Antoine Eito, had to be taken out of the game with an ankle injury in the semifinals.

France’s women’s team defeated Canada 16-13 to win the World Cup for the first time in their history. In contrast to les Bleues’ 10 points, Michelle Plouffe was the top scorer with 7. China’s women’s team won the 2019 World Cup and the bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo by defeating Lithuania 21-11 in the bronze medal game. Ji Yuan Wan scored 7 points to lead all scorers, followed by Lili Wang with 6 and ZhiTing Zhang with 6.

The road to the Paris 2024 Olympics began with the Crelan FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2022, with the tournament’s victor gaining automatic qualification to the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2023, where the top three finishers will earn spots in an upcoming FIBA 3×3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Crelan hosted the dunk competition for the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in 2022, and Polish slam dunk champion Piotr “Grabo” Grabowski took home the trophy. The 6-foot-1 (1.83 m) dunker was a landslide winner, defeating the Netherlands’ Remco Frankin and Latvia’s Kristaps Dargais.
